A Personal Prayer Request

Tomorrow (April 1st), I am going to begin a "54-day Rosary Novena". For the next 54 days I will pray 20 decades Rosary each day for the blessing of my priestly ministry. The Novena will end on May 24th (Our Lady Help of Christians).

This is my second year making this Novena. I pray for God's blessings on my priestly assignments and for the fruitfulness of my priestly works.

This past year has been a very fruitful year for me. I thanks Our Lady of the Holy Rosary for the blessings I received through her intercession. I pray the Novena for another fruitful year. Here is the story of the Novena:

My Sunday Sermons (Today & Last Week)

Today is the 5th Sunday of Lent. I preached on dying to self and living in the love of God.

  • The spiritual life includes both Love and Sacrifice
  • To love God is the end of the spiritual life
  • But love of God and sacrifice cannot be separated
  • We must avoid 2 extremes: talking about love but not sacrifice, or talking about sacrifice & rules but overlook love

My sermon last week was on the love of God. The love of Jesus is:

  • Self-giving
  • Universal (include everyone)
  • Particular (for each individual)

If you wish to take up your abode in the tabernacle of the heavenly kingdom, you must reach there through your good works, without which you can not hope to enter.---ST. BENEDICT.

Saintly Quotes for Lent (ON HUMILITY):

Whoever has the charge of others ought not hesitate to resist and correct vices of those who depend on him, or even to oppose their sentiments when need requires it--- always, however, with mildness and peace, especially when he has to enunciate any truths difficult to receive.---ST. FRANCIS DE SALES.

I  have turned forward and backward and on every side, and what conclusion have I reached? I have considered all methods of governing, and even tried them, and I have finally seen that the best is that which is amiable, humble, and patient.---ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL.

Let us thank God for having called us to His holy faith. It is a great gift, and the number of those who thank God for it is small.---ST. ALPHONSUS.

Saintly Quotes for Lent (ON HUMILITY):

In order to enjoy the merciful love of Jesus, it is necessary to humiliate ourselves, to acknowledge our nothingness, and this is a thing which many are unwilling to do.---ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX.

Baptism for 3 Children

Today is the Feast of the Annunciation. This afternoon, I said a special Mass in both Chinese and English. During the Mass, I baptized the 3 children I have been instructing since last year. Their baptismal names are: Anne Marie, Peter, & Paul. At the end of Mass a group of Chinese faithful also made their Consecration to Our Lady.

Today is also the 20th Anniversary of my own Confirmation. I am glad to be able to give Confirmation to the oldest of the 3 children, Anne Marie.

Support Pope Benedict XVI

Please support Pope Benedict XVI

Please sign the support letter here in response to the massive, unfair, and inaccurate criticism being leveled at him for his courage in speaking the truth about condoms and their ineffectiveness at halting the spread of AIDS.

Let’s listen to the Pope’s own impressions on Africa.

Saintly Quote of the Day (2009年3月24日)

We should carefully beware of giving ourselves so completely to any employment as to forget to have recourse to God from time to time.---ST. TERESA.

Saintly Quotes for Lent (ON HUMILITY):

Vain self-complacency and the desire of making a show of being spoken of, of having our conduct praised, and of hearing it said that we succeed well and are doing wonders--- this is an evil which makes us forget God, which infects our holiest actions, and is, of all vices, the most injurious to progress in the spiritual life.---ST. VINCENT DE PAUL.

As soon as I am pitied and flooded with attentions, I no longer have joy.---ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX.

Birthday & Baptism

Finally 33!!!

I am very grateful for all the good wishes and celebrations for my birthday.

God is good! 2 years on a roll, He let me celebrated birthday with Baptism.

Last year, my birthday was on Easter Sunday (March 23rd), and I had the joy to baptize a group of Chinese Catechumens on Easter Vigil (March 22nd).

This year, the day before my birthday, I had the joy of baptizing 3 lovely babies at St. Patrick’s.

Yesterday afternoon, I offered the 3 PM Chinese Mass for the people I baptized last year on March 22nd and for other members of the Chinese community whom I baptized in the past 2 years. During the Mass I also had the joy to do the Second Scrutiny for the Chinese Catechumens who will be baptized this Easter.

During Communion, the choir sang this Chinese blessing hymn for my birthday:

After Mass, they had a little tea party for me.

Today I led my Chinese prayer group (Our Lady of the Rosary Prayer Group).

A good number of this Prayer Group are new Catholics I baptized last year…

….most of them were baptized on March 22nd. So we also celebrated their 1st Anniversary of Baptism as well.

These 2 new members of our Prayer Group…..

….the one on the left: she also celebrated her birthday TODAY. And the one on the right, she celebrated her birthday yesterday. So we had triple birthday celebration!!!

We went out for lunch….

This afternoon, children of Queen of Angels Group at St. Patrick’s had a small party for me…

….2 girls made the cake last night.

This evening, my English Prayer Group people gave me a “surprise” birthday supper…

Last year, I told the people that able to do Baptism for 18 people at Easter was my greatest Birthday Gift.

This year I consider these 2 as my greatest Birthday Gifts:

1st: to be able to celebrate with so many people whom I love, especially with the ones I baptized last year.

2nd: to be able to do Baptism this year close to my birthday---- The 3 lovely babies on the 22nd. And I am looking forward to baptize the 3 children I have been instructing since last year on coming Wednesday, the 25th (the Feast of the Annunciation). That day will also be the 20th Anniversary of my own Confirmation.

I do have Birthday Wish:

O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy priests; You yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things.---ST. FAUSTINA KOWALSKA. (March 24, 1937)
